The game of chess has come a long way, from the timeless genius of previous masters to the dynamic environment of modern play, with its many technological advancements, internet matches, engine variations, and careful opening preparation. Some games in the digital age play out smoothly, with every step planned ahead of time, giving players little opportunity for originality. The innovative Casablanca Chess Variant is being introduced by the Casablanca Stock Exchange to encourage the spirit of independent thought and strategic creativity.
Introducing the Casablanca Variant of Chess
- Starting positions: Inspired by historical gems, some well-known, some less so, the game begins with equal starting locations. Will the masters of today take the well-traveled paths taken by their forebears, or will they go differently?
- Title of Tournament: Casablanca Chess; hosted by the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation, Casa Events & Animation, and the Casablanca Stock Exchange
- Elite Players: Four of the best players from every continent will compete in quick games. Before every game, surprise starting positions will be chosen and disclosed by grandmasters Laurent Fressinet and Hicham Hamdouchi.

Casablanca FIDE100
The FIDE 100 celebrations and Casablanca Chess are happening simultaneously as the International Chess Federation celebrates a century since its founding.
With the celebration of a century of world chess history mixed with the love of the game, this special edition promises to be something remarkable.
The Torch ceremony, which takes place at this festival every year, will make its way around the globe. This time, the Parc de la Ligue Arabe will host an important occasion that includes several educational programs for the general public, such as a continuous display with 100 players.
The “Capture” photo show, a project by photographer Stev Bonhage that questions the way people usually see chess, will also be part of the FIDE100 event series.
